Global sourcing, Rigorous selection

We regard wood as the 'soul material' of guitars. Therefore, our wood procurement team scours premium forests worldwide

In North America, our top choices for soundboards are slow-grown, densely grained Sitka Spruce and Engelmann Spruce. These woods' exceptional resonance and strength ratio establish a clear, dynamic tonal foundation. We also source North American Black Walnut.

Other selection include African Mahogany, which is known for its balanced tone and rich mid-range, and also Indian Rosewood.

Furthermore, we also purchase Hawaiian Koa wood for high-end guitar.

Each shipment of raw lumber and timber undergo rigorous dual inspection by our master luthiers and quality control specialists to ensure that every piece meets our exacting standards for grain pattern, density and acoustic properties.

Natural air-drying and controlled drying

SAGA has three large temperature- and humidity-controlled storage warehouse, which are specifically constructed for wood reserves.

Most wood undergoes a natural air-drying process lasting one to two years. We stack the wood neatly with ample gaps to allow free air circulation, which gently stabilises the internal moisture content.

Building upon this natural drying process, we then subject the wood to further controlled drying. Using precision equipment, we strictly regulate the temperature and humidity to stabilise the wood's moisture content within the optimal range of 6–8% for guitar manufacturing.

Additionally, our warehouse implements a scientific zoning management system. Wood of different species, storage years, and specifications is clearly categorised, numbered, and documented.

Sustainability

While reserving the wood, SAGA actively fulfills THE environmental responsibilities by prioritizing wood sourced from FSC-certified forests and exploring high-quality alternative materials. This commitment contributes to the sustainable development of our industry.

We firmly believe that only through reverence and patience toward wood can we ultimately craft guitars that stand the test of time and earn the trust of musicians.

The SAGA Wood Reserve Warehouse is the starting point of our commitment and the guarantee of the exceptional tone and quality found in every SAGA guitar.
