SAGA Bolt-on Neck Joint Technology
In the 1950s, Leo Fender invented the revolutionary bolt-on neck joint technology for mass-producing electric guitars, driven by considerations of serviceability and cost control.
Due to its significant advantages, the bolt-on neck design was widely adopted by numerous brands and became one of the cornerstones of modern electric guitar manufacturing. In acoustic guitar manufacturing, Taylor Guitar developed the NT neck, a bolt-on neck specifically designed for acoustic guitars.
Currently, the bolt-on neck is mainly used in electric guitar and high-end acoustic guitars.
A bolt-on neck is a type of neck attachment which the neck is secured to the body using bolts. This is very different from the traditional set-neck, which uses mortise-and-tenon joints and adhesive bonding.

The advantages of bolt-on neck
The main advantage of bolt-on neck is that they are easy to produce and maintain. The neck and body can be manufactured, finished and stored separately. The assembly process requires no adhesive, and luthiers can secure the neck with bolts in several minutes, which significantly streamlines production.
If the neck becomes damaged or requires adjustment, it can be easily replaced or repaired by simply unscrewing the bolts, thus eliminating the complex heating and gluing processes required for a set-in neck.
Furthermore, when adjusting the neck angle, bolt-on necks often allow for more direct and effortless fine-tuning to achieve the desired angle.
What makes SAGA bolt-on neck different
At SAGA, the playing experience is always our top priority. Our luthiers have refined the bolt-on neck joint process by using CNC technology for precise bolt-hole drilling. This ensures there is virtually no gap between the neck and body after installation – a detail which we do better than many guitar brands!
Furthermore, we have redesigned the traditional C-shaped neck. Using CNC machine to cut and sanding it again based on the C-shape, offer a thinner neck while combining with the bolt-on neck joint, delivers an unparalleled playing experience!
